Canadian Brass BIG Jazz CD Bundle (5 CD's)

Canadian Brass has performed Jazz titles since very early in their existence. These CD's are a great introduction into the Jazz repertoire of Canadian Brass!

SWING THAT MUSIC - The Brass, of course, would have loved to play with Louis Armstrong, but the years just didn't line up. We were only starting as a group in 1971, the year that Satchmo died. This could well have been the end of the story--a legacy to be studied and analyzed. But in the creative hands of Luther Henderson this wealth of musical history was made alive to us. How fortunate we are to have had Luther as our link to all those amazing performers and composers that have made jazz what it is today. And "swing that music" pretty much sums up everything Luther taught us about performing. -Chuck. Includes: SWING THAT MUSIC, CAROLINA SHOUT, PROMENADE, BEBOP BACH, COOL BACH, DIXIE BACH, STRUTTIN' WITH SOME BARBEQUE, SWEET GEORGIA BROWN, ST. LOUIS BLUES, BLACK AND BLUE, WAY DOWN YONDER IN NEW ORLEANS, BLACK BOTTOM STOMP, STRIKE UP THE BAND, SLEEPLESS NIGHT, THREE-QUARTER BLUES, AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', BLUEBERRY HILL.

JAZZ ROOTS - Never thought you would hear Canadian Brass joined by jazz piano? How about electric bass? Unknown to many, it's already been done! In the early 1970s, the Brass challenged the perception of musical boundaries through two recordings which were among the first to create the brand-new "crossover" genre. These classic LPs, Rag-Ma-Tazz, which was influenced by the ragtime era, and Unexplored Territory, a unique collaboration with contemporary jazz pianist and composer Don Gillis, are presented here for the first time in one CD package, as a homage to the story of jazz. -First came Rag-Ma-Tazz—a ragtime era and ragtime influenced music recording. Tracks Include : RAG - MA - TAZZ/ 1 Entertainer Rag 2 Pleasant Moments (Ragtime Waltz) 3 The Favourite 4 Sycamore Rag 5 Euphonic Sounds 6 Rosebud Ragtime March 7 Figleaf Rag 8 Easy Winners Lee 9 Days Before Yesterday 10 Golliwog's Cake Walk 11 Slim Trombone 12 Lassus Trombone 13 Canadian Brass Rag UNEXPLORED TERRITORIES 1. SPIRIT DANCE - Canadian Brass reach deeper into the world of traditional and experimental jazz by asking multi-Juno award winner David Braid to write and perform on a CD with them. Canadian Brass has had the good fortune to not only share in the greatest art music the West has produced, but by virtue of the enormous flexibility and sound qualities of their modern brass instruments the ensemble has been a welcome participant in the North American jazz tradition.  The group's early experimentation with Ragtime was followed with a prize winning & chart topping Jazz Crossover album, "Unexplored Territory" written for them by Don Gillis, a writer best known for his collaboration with Jim Henson on Fragel Rock with the Muppets.
