The RT-48+ has a heavier shell compared to the RT-48. This gives it stronger projection and a darker sound. Response is very stable and benefits both the low and high Register.
Formerly named Perantucci mouthpieces, this Robert Tucci mouthpiece is a very popular size. The RT-48+ is based on the classic Helleberg concept yet wider than standard mouthpieces. The rim is enhanced for quick response and clarity. The sound is dark with a broad core. Excellent for medium-large and large-bore CC and BBb tubas.

Robert Tucci RT 48+ tuba mouthpice
I have tried several different mouthpieces since I purchased two new horns from Mack Brass this past August. I had settled on two. One was an early Arnold Jacobs mouthpiece I have owned for almost 30 years and the other was a Schilke Helleberg II. I prefered the Arnold Jacobs because of it's bowl depth and tonal quality. The SH-II was another excellent mouthpiece that fit my embouchure better, but didn't have the deeper color I prefer. Both mouthpieces had a more defined inner rim and a flatter lip. Although both worked well I wanted something a little rounder., not much, but a little rounder. on the rim. After some discussion with the Rep at Canadian Brass we decided that the RT - 48+ was going to be my best selection. It arrived today and I have been playing it on both of my horns (4/4+ and 3/4) for about an hour. I know it is an early appraisal but I love the mouthpiece. Dark, full round sound and comfortable on both horns. I cannot wait to try it within an ensemble next week after the holidays are behind us. I will still switch to the other mouthpieces depending on what group I am playing within, but The RT - 48+ will be my primary mouthpiece moving forward. As I gain more experience with this mouthpiece it maybe the only one I ever use moving forward.

The best of both worlds
I got this mouthpiece to replace my Perantucci PT70, better in the low-range, and my Conn-Helleberg, better in the high-range.
From the first note I knew this was the mouthpiece for me. Low-range is fantastic. High-range is almost effortless. Consistent sound all the way through.
