Magnificat for Brass Quintet and Organ (Buxtehude/arr. Marlatt)

There is some scholarly doubt as to the composer of this piece. It has been attributed to Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707). Originally for choir and orchestra, this work contains triple-meter melodies with frequent hemiolas. It is melodically simple with a clear structure including a ritornello section in which the organ plays alone. Each member in the group gets at least one section of solo material including some extended passages for tuba. It is a long work (over 300 measures) but none of the parts are very difficult and, with frequent rests, no part is too taxing. Includes a score with organ and parts for 2 Bb trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba.
