Archangel for Brass Quintet and Organ (David Marlatt)

The title Archangel came from both the adventurous feeling of the music and from Saint Michael, a popular saint found in many religious denominations. In Catholic teachings, he has several roles including leading the army of God to triumph over the powers of Satan and was respected and honored by military orders of knights. He was the patron saint of chivalry and, more recently, of
police officers, paramedics and the military in various countries around the world. This piece is set in three main sections: The Thunder of Battle, Memories in the Wind and In Sight of Home. This depicts Saint Michael’s inspiration of an army in battle, their reflection on the victory as they sit around a campfire at night then spying their homeland, on the horizon but within reach. A score and parts for 2 trumpets, horn, trombone, tuba and organ are included.
