MEDIUM-DIFFICULT LEVEL
Clarke’s Side Partners is an excellent example of turn-of-the-century writing for cornet. The piece requires agility and technique from the soloists but also showcases Clarke’s gift for composing melodic material that is memorable and crowd-pleasing. Originally composed as a duet with band accompaniment, the present arrangement leaves the two solo parts completely intact and effectively reduces the band score into the low brass trio within the quintet in a way that is idiomatic and honors the style of the original score.
