    Adagio for Brass Quintet

It is amazing how well this beautiful music translates to small chamber ensemble. it is not easy, but is well worth the time to work all the nuances, tuning, and other issues to make this music work. The manuscript takes some getting used to, as is the meter. There are a few mistakes in the manuscript as well when it comes to the meter. These are not enough to put off the rating and every quintet should have this in the book.

Adagio for Brass Quintet by Samuel Barber/arr. McNeff

We took a look at this piece in rehearsal last night and it looks like it could be a wonderful performance piece for us - EXCEPT that so far we have found 6 measures where one of the five instruments has either too many or too few beats, which puts us out of sync with one another. In a piece that moves from 4/2 to 6/2 to 5/2 and back again within a few measures, this is intolerable. I hope we can get some kind of fix: the conductor's score does not help. I do not expect shoddy material from Canadian Brass and am looking forward to some kind of help.
