This arrangement of the classic children’s Hanukkah song is written in the style of 1950s rockabilly music and includes all the elements from the Boogie Woogie bass line to the traditional guitar riffs. Right from the very beginning of the chart, the piece has high energy, demanding strong air and controlled articulation.
Throughout the chart, there is a lot of variety in the backgrounds performed by accompaniments, all of which are important for the, but should never overpower the main melody. Call response sections, like that in measures 17-24, should be balanced between the two parts.
Unless specifically indicated, the tuba bass line should be played with a slight separation between pitches to create a lilt.
Although solos are written, chord changes are provided during these sections should performers prefer to improvise solos. If improvising, a blues scale would also be a good option to help remain within the rockabilly style.
