Suite from L'Orfeo for Brass Quintet (Monteverdi/arr. Ridenour)

As a composer Monteverdi bridged the style of the Renaissance with the Baroque. His Opera L'Orfeo was one of the earliest written and is still performed today. Brandon Ridenour has created this Suite from L'Orfeo for the Canadian Brass recording titled Echo; Glory of Gabrieli, which contains music from Gabrieli and Monteverdi. This suite contains the following movements:

Toccata

Prologo - Dal mio Permesso amato

Lasciate i monti (chorus)

Vieni Imeneo (chorus)

Ecco Orfeo (chorus)

Messaggiera y Pastore

Tu se' morta

Ahi caso acerbo! (chorus, followed by Prologo ritornello theme)

Chi Ne Consola (duet, followed by Prologo ritornello theme)

Vanne Orfeo (final chorus)

Moresca

The Suite is written for:

2 Trumpets  (Piccolo, Bb, D trumpet and Flugel depending on the movement)

1 Horn in F

1 Tenor Trombone

1 Bass Trombone
