Sheet Music

Canadian Brass has been publishing music since the summer of 1973. A brief history...

Shortly after their first recording was out in stores, Canadian Brass's Chuck Daellenbach reached out to his friend, composer Howard Cable, who mentored Chuck on music publishing.
Chuck realized that it would be wise to register their brass quintet arrangements since they were now being heard by the world. Mr. Cable introduced Chuck to John Bird, who at the time, was president of Gordon V. Thompson LTD. Although the Canadian Brass publications were still controlled by the group, Gordon V. Thompson took over distribution of the Canadian Brass catalog to music stores throughout Canada. At that time, G. Schirmer Inc in New York was the oldest music publishing company in the USA and was the US distributor for Gordon V. Thompson. In 1986 G. Schirmer was sold and Hal Leonard Corp. became the sole distributor of G. Schirmer printed music, including the Canadian Brass catalog.
Over the next 34 years, Canadian Brass has added many titles to their own catalog and also collaborated with Hal Leonard on several publications that they own and control.
The 'Brass have always been involved with music education. The very first outings of the ensemble were performances to public school children in the Toronto area as "outreach" for the Hamilton Philharmonic. In addition to providing masterclasses and performances to thousands of students annually as a group, current and past members have been involved with teaching at the university level and in private study. With the help of several members of Canadian Brass and well over 100 years of combined teaching experience, we now list many of their suggestions for the top method and study books for trumpet, horn, trombone and tuba, which are displayed in the Sheet Music for Brass Instruments section of the store. You will also notice a selection of sheet music solos for trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium and tuba in this area.
PDF sheet music has been gaining popularity with many of our customers. Purchasing a PDF download of an arrangement allows the customer to receive the music immediately and also save money on shipping. This is extremely valuable for our international customers who often pay customs fees besides. We are expanding this area of the store but not every title is available in this format due to copyright restrictions. We have a few other forms of electronic delivery of sheet music. Blackbinder is a company that has created a protected electronic delivery of sheet music to iPads through their Apple app. What makes this format unique is that when you view the music through an iPad, the app automatically scrolls through the music at the tempo you set, without need for page turns. A small selection of the most popular Canadian Brass quintet music is currently in this format and available in the store, but you need to download the app to your iPad first. The other protected method of electronic delivery of music is through a collaboration with Hal Leonard, our distributor, who has made a large portion of their massive catalog of popular music instantly available as downloads through our Canadian Brass "Sheet Music Direct" store. There are 25 of our best selling brass quintets available through this outlet along with the majority of the Canadian Brass Concert Band series. You can also find thousands of music titles in other formats such and piano music, guitar music, brass instrument music, woodwind instrument music, string instrument music and much, much more.

Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have regarding the sheet music.
