Notes on the music
Trumpet Invasion is a collection of piano works that have been arranged for trumpet and piano. They feature trumpet virtuoso Brandon Ridenour joined by his father, pianist Rich Ridenour. As the arranger, Brandon kicks off his “trumpet invasion” with his take on the most famous tune every child learns on the piano — Chopsticks. Rachmaninov’s Etude Tableaux and Mozart’s Rondo alla Turca morph from standard piano works into something completely new and fresh. Rich jumps into the act with his turn with Chopin’s Grand Polonaise, his arrangement highlights the keyboard with minimal scoring for trumpet. The album also includes three Gershwin works — including Promenade, which is also known as Walking the Dog. It is a musical number written in 1937 by George Gershwin for the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers film Shall We Dance. In the film, the music accompanies a sequence of Astaire walking a dog onboard a luxury liner. There are also works by Ravel, Prokofiev, Scriabin and Schumann.
